I recently retitled my blog to Saved By Self Expression because I believe that our unique creative expression is the answer to many of our perceived problems.
Everything I write here is tied to our thinking, molding, influences and whether or not the ideas that we express as our own, actually are our authentic beliefs. This is linked directly to our emotions which leads to the question of, “Am I responding emotionally based on my own reasoning and experience, or am I responding to someone elses’s?”
Let’s forget about all of our ‘problems’, the ‘injustices”, feelings of ‘victimhood’, etc. Notice I put those words in quotes, that’s because these are what we choose to focus on and thus we define ourselves as the things we so despise. Let’s not do that.
In my book Toxic Rainbows, I cover a lot of ground relating to influences and how ideas are impressed upon us without being fully cognizant that we are being indoctrinated and conditioned to thoughts and beliefs that are not really ours. Suddenly we find ourselves part of a group experience where we repeat the thoughts and emotional pleas of others and express them as our own, in the process we are snuffing out the light of creativity that is within us.
Older readers and the unplugged can remember the active creativity of our young minds and time spent in imaginative thought, but perhaps younger people of today have been brought up to immerse themselves in a digital world where their heads are bent down to look at a screen on a handheld device, and sadly, those practices are doing little to enhance their creative abilities, I would go so far as to say their creativity is being stunted. It’s time to unplug, put down the ‘Smart’ devices and resist the temptation to download yet another app to add to the scores of digital distraction you may already be in possession of.
The overwhelming complaint about embracing a life of creativity and imagination is that people often don’t know what to do with themselves or they claim boredom. Access to our inner light and creative core is possible, but we need to let go of the influences, condtioning and belief systems that have created self-doubt and feelings that what YOU have to offer isn’t as important as the desires of other people.
Here’s the thing, once you are able to let go of the influence of others, whether in the form of overbearing relatives, emotional news anchors or virtue signaling co-workers, then you can begin to heal and create.
The most important thing for people to remember is that by following our own hearts, feeling from our core and deciding for ourselves what truth is, it is easy to see that we’ve never turned our backs on anyone. What we’ve done is allowed ourselves to reach a place where we can actually give of ourselves which is much more powerful and rewarding than being a single voice in a mob-think position….you will actually be heard and your special gift can be shared and enjoyed by the rest of the world.
Takeaway: Examine the things in your life where you find yourself giving, but not are not getting anything in return. Does where you put your energy leave you depleted, angry or repeating the thoughts and feelings of others? Think about what you can do that will allow you the time and peace of mind to do some serious self-reflection. Once you reach that point, you can then focus on your true self and your creative gifts that everyone can benefit from.
