Earth Energy and What My Dog Taught Me

There’s a bumber sticker on a car I see all the time that says, “Be The Person Your Dog Sees You As”. I love that because it reminds us that our pets don’t judge us and want only to love us and to experience the feeling of love in return. They are all about the win-win situation!

Our sweet Boston Terrier Chuy inspires the idea for a different bumber sticker that should read, “Be The Person That Your Dog Is”!  The word ‘dog’ has been used to denigrate people for ages, but like so many things in our world today it is a horrible inversion of truth. People shouldn’t refer to others as dogs, but if they do, they’re really only paying their enemy a compliment.  I am a better person because of my dogs and I am still learning from them.  Love, compassion, patience, natural intelligence…they have so much to teach us.

The most recent lesson Chuy has taught and reminded me of is the importance of our connection to Earth.

I get Chuy out for a walk around the neighborhood once or twice a day and a priority for him is to find grass to roll around in. It’s something he does with passion and exudes a pure joy that I never get tired of watching. After some thought I realized that he was connecting to the healing powers of the earth. His playful  rolling went beyond having fun, I sensed that he was charging up just like we do when we ground ourselves before meditation!

This morning we went out to the park and enjoyed a great expanse of grass where he ran with joy and rolled and rolled and rolled…soaking up all that incredible energy from the earth and literally bathed in the morning dew.

I was not one to let a good opportunity go to waste and did just as this wise pup did and  ran along side him and soaked up the potent energy of earth myself.

We can’t forget or take for granted the gifts around us and the powers that come from the earth that heal us, ground us and get us more connected to consciousness.  It’s time to free yourself of distractions, technology, and opinions. Find a quiet place, feel the natural energies around you, connect to it. Be conscious of the fact that you are a part of this divine force. Even if it’s just a small corner in your yard, it’s time to do something. Start small, know you are connected and build on that.

As a seeker of knowledge and understanding, I’ve come a long way and it’s been a long road. In the past I have attempted opening the eyes of others through various means, but have been met only with resistence. Since then I’ve learned that change can only come when we want it to. We can get guidance and have support, but that decision can not come from arm-twisting or pressure from anyone, it has to come from ourselves.

It is a lifetime’s work, but as you walk this path, each day gives you a sense of accomplishment that the material world can not hold a candle to. It’s time to make a conscious decision to remove yourself from the things in life that work against your nature.

If you have a dog, follow their lead.  If you have questions, drop me an email.

Self Transformation Can Get Ugly

TRIGGEREDI have become fascinated by horror movies where people are transformed into monsters. The idea that a poison takes over or a contamination turns someone into a fiendish creature is an interesting theme for a movie, but the reality is that we are doing it to ourselves quite openly all the time.

Triggered. Child tantrums have made way for adult meltdowns and seriously low karmic behavior goes from the periodic to standard practice. We use labels and fear to justify our behavior, opt for selective outrage and express intolerance for anyone who refuses to take part in our rage.

Self Transformation and goals of attaining greater consciousness and atunement with Divine energy requires the type of self reflection and contemplation that results in clarity.  Without clarity and awareness, we can’t see or experience our actual reality and our emotions blind us and prevent us from experiencing equilibrium and happiness.

Maintaining balance in a world that appears designed to throw us off our game is not always easy even when we are fully aware of our triggers. Instinctively we yearn for balance. Tension, hostility, doubt, uncertainty, fear…all these things are byproducts of the misery brought on by a lack of balance.

It is a Law of Nature that if you express hatred and anger, that’s what you get more of in your life. It will even express itself in the way you look. We all owe it to ourselves to calm the beast within and understand that the real monsters are not exterior to us.

The image here is from the 80s horror film The Beast Within and the title should  be reflected on by anyone who struggles with responsibility and blame.

Your personal growth and self-transformation is going to take more than repeating a few inspirational quotes and jumping on a culty New Age bandwagon. It might get ugly before the rainbows and unicorns start appearing. But never fear, you are not alone.
